See the Lake District in a Whole New Way
HERE’s THE DETAILS
-
This is an event for all abilities and speeds, you can enter solo or run as a pair and choose from three courses; Short, Medium and Long. The shorter courses will have the simplest navigation and route choice with increasing ascent and difficulty on the Medium course and the most technical navigation on the Long Course.
During each day you’ll be responsible for yourself. You’ll need to be comfortable navigating and looking after your own food and water, but you won’t need to carry three days worth of camping equipment.Your overnight kit will be transported ahead to the next camp, allowing you to travel light during the day and concentrate on the mountains rather than the weight on your back.
At the end of each day you’ll arrive at a new overnight location, find your kit, put your tent up and settle in. No fancy event village, just a good camp, good food, good company and the satisfaction of having spent another day in the hills.
-
The routes will be challenging as this is the Lake District after all! Expect mountain paths, rough ground, steep climbs, big descents and the occasional bit of ‘weather’.
This isn’t about chasing someone else’s finish time. It’s about having an adventure in the mountains and making sensible decisions along the way. With the freedom to choose your own pace and your own level of challenge.
-
The 2027 event will start in Pooley Bridge on the shores of Ullswater, The Lake District. This three-day mountain adventure will take participants deep into the Lake District, with a different campsite each night.
-
The event has been created by a team who are passionate about mountain adventures. Mark, Stuart and Joe all met in the mountains many years ago and have enjoyed a considerable amount of events of many types over the past two decades.
Their approach is straightforward: create a good route, look after people properly and let the mountains provide the experience. This event follows that same philosophy. It’s deliberately low-key, friendly and grassroots.
Over three days you’ll experience the quieter side of the fells, travelling through some of the finest mountain landscapes in the country and staying somewhere different each night.
You’ll run, walk, climb, eat, sleep, chat and do it all again the following morning. By the end of three days you’ll have covered a significant amount of Lakeland, but hopefully you’ll remember the places, people and little adventures along the way as much as the miles.
-
OL3D is for experienced fell runners, trail runners and mountain walkers who enjoy a proper day out in the hills and fancy doing something a little different. You need to be fit, mountain competent and comfortable being self-sufficient during the day. Navigation is an important part of the experience, and you’ll need to be prepared for the realities of travelling through the Lake District mountains using a map and compass.
